As a valued member of our community, we are reaching out to inform you of an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of the Southern African Energy Efficiency Confederation (SAEEC). The SAEEC Board is currently welcoming nominations  for  vacancies that have occurred and we believe that your expertise and commitment to advancing energy efficiency make you an ideal candidate for a position. Serving on the SAEEC Board provides an opportunity to shape the future of energy efficiency initiatives in the Southern African region and make a positive impact on sustainable development.

The SAEEC values the input and commitment of each SAEEC member and in accordance with our governance procedures, your acknowledgement and confirmation is required  for the selected Directors, Board Members to continue with their two year term (2023-2024).

The following persons have already completed part of their services in 2024 and we need your re-confirmation for them to continue their services.  Kindly note that you can still nominate another person, however, in the instance of any challengers occurring full voting procedure will commence for the position

 Key Responsibilities of SAEEC Board Members:

  • Represent Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) in South Africa.
  • Provide strategic guidance and direction to the organization.
  • Support the development and implementation of energy efficiency programs.
  • Foster collaboration and partnerships within the energy efficiency sector.
  • Represent SAEEC at industry events and engage with stakeholders.
  • Contribute to fundraising efforts and financial sustainability.

 Nomination Process

Self-Nominations:

If you are passionate about energy efficiency, we encourage you to self-nominate by submitting a brief bio, resume, and a letter expressing your interest and vision for advancing energy efficiency within our organization.

Third-Party Nominations:

Members of our organization or the community may also nominate individuals they believe possess the necessary qualities to contribute to the SAEEC Board. In this  instance , the nominated individual/s will be contacted and invited to submit their application.

Criteria and Deadline for Nominations:

The deadline for nominations is 09 February 2024

  1. Nominations open to all to be nominated and to nominate.
  2. Voting rights only applicable to SAEEC Members
  3. Nominees need to accept and acknowledge their nominations and provide a brief biography, a statement of interest, and any relevant experience that ensures their qualifications for a  specific position.
  4. Shortlisted candidates must be members of SAEEC and AEE  in their position as Directors, Board Members, Committee chairperson before voting commences.
  5. Term will be for two years (2024-2025) and will be acknowledged and confirmed by SAEEC Members annually

We encourage self-nominations, and we also welcome recommendations of individuals who you believe would make valuable contributions to the SAEEC Board. The SAEEC is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion, and we encourage nominations from individuals of all backgrounds.

TREASURER  PORTFOLIO AVAILABLE FOR NOMINATION

SAEEC is currently seeking a  qualified and dedicated individual to join our Board of Directors as the Treasurer. As a vital member of our non-profit organization, the Treasurer will play a key role in managing and overseeing our financials.If you are passionate about our mission and possess the necessary financial expertise, we invite you to apply for this important position.

 About Us:

SAEEC is a non-profit coordinating body that is aimed towards promoting the energy efficiency industry in Southern Africa. Founded in 2002 under the banner of the Southern African Association for Energy Efficiency (SAEE), the confederation has evolved to become the umbrella body that consists of associations and specific user groups that play an important role in sustainably developing the energy efficiency industry in the context of Southern Africa.

 We are dedicated to energy efficiency for sustainable growth and prosperity through focused initiatives aimed towards:

  • focused initiatives aimed towards the growth and development of people, education institutions and businesses, throughout Southern Africa,
  • the creation of communities that promote knowledge sharing and networking,
  • as well as recognize efforts that lead the industry forward sustainably.
  • to promote the scientific and educational interests of those engaged in the energy industry and

TREASURER PORTFOLIO

 Responsibilities:

As the Treasurer, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial position  of the organization. Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing and monitoring the organization’s financial activities.
  • Providing financial reports to the board on a regular basis.
  • Collaborating with the different committees to present annual budgets.
  • Ensuring compliance with financial regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Advising the board on financial strategy and decision-making.
  • Participating in regular board meetings and relevant committee meetings.

 Qualifications:

We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Financial expertise, with a background in finance, accounting, or related fields.
  • Experience in financial management, preferably within a nonprofit organization.
  • Familiarity with financial regulations and reporting requirements for nonprofits.
  • Strong analytical and strategic financial planning skills.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of SAEEC and its Code of Conduct as SAEEC Member / Association of Energy Engineer(AEE) member
  • Ability to work collaboratively with board members and staff.

 Expectations:

The successful candidate is expected to:

  • Attend regular board meetings (3-4 per annum) and actively participate in discussions.
  • Attend Annual General Meeting (AGM)
  • Attend SAEEC Annual Conference
  • Fulfill the duties outlined in the organization’s bylaws related to the Treasurer position.
  • Work closely with the Directors, Board members and Chairpersons to  monitor budgets.
  • Provide financial guidance to support the organization’s mission and goals.
  • Maintain the highest standards of integrity and transparency in financial matters.
  • Be current & active SAEEC Member
  • Be a current member of the mother body, Association of Energy Engineers(AEE)

Responsibilities:

  • Represent the interests and perspectives of youth in energy-related discussions.
  • Engage with youth communities to promote awareness and involvement in sustainable energy practices.
  • Contribute innovative ideas to shape the organization’s youth-focused initiatives.
  • Work closely with the Directors, Board members and Chairpersons

Qualifications

  • Age under 35 at the time of application.
  • Passion for sustainable energy and a commitment to youth empowerment.
  • Strong communication and networking skills.
SAFEE PORTFOLIO

Board Member – South African Females in Energy Efficiency (SAFEE) Portfolio Chair

Responsibilities:

  • Advocate for gender diversity and inclusion in energy efficiency initiatives.
  • Provide insights and guidance on promoting opportunities for females in the energy sector.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of energy efficiency programs with a gender-sensitive approach.
  • Work closely with the Directors, Board members and Chairpersons

Qualifications:

  • Background in energy, sustainability, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated commitment to gender diversity and equality.
  • Experience in energy efficiency projects is an asset.
