The AEE certification programs take into account the possible diversity of education and practical experience an individual may have. The compulsory training sessions do not have pre-requisites for attendance. However, certain basic knowledge is required to be able to gain value from the training sessions.
AEE programs have strict compliance requirements which includes, but is not limited to:
- Attending in excess of 90% of the training sessions in the chosen discipline.
- Passing the voluntary AEE international examination in the chosen discipline with 70% or more.
- A sliding scale of work experience is required, in relation to current qualifications held.
Candidates that do not yet meet the required work experience are granted three (3) to six (6) years – dependent on qualification applied for – to perform practical work related to the qualification they seek. The candidate will then receive a certificate which includes a statement of examination results. Within that timeframe, should the candidate still not meet the work experience requirement, the In-Training (IT) status is awarded, whereafter, the candidate has another three years to gain experience. A maximum of six (6) years after taking the training session is therefore allowed to develop the necessary skills required.
All AEE Certification qualification programs require re-certification every three (3) years subject to participation in the AEE Continuing Education Program (CEP). UNIDO and SAQA modules carry AEE credits and ECSA CPD credits for AEE renewal requirements.
AEE programs are designed for persons already working in the industry, and the training programs are meant to prepare for the examination sitting. Certification provides credibility to individuals and benefits companies as candidates are required to not only prepare for the examination, but pass the examination with 70%, and have to provide evidence of work experience dependent on the candidate’s educational background. Candidates without degrees, but with over 10 years’ experience in the industry, can qualify for Certification when they pass the examination.
