DECARBONISATION FOR INDUSTRY & MINING: A PRACTICAL PATHWAY FOR ENERGY PROFESSIONALS

Abstract: Decarbonisation is now a business imperative for energy-intensive sectors like industry and mining, driven by rising carbon taxes and global Net Zero commitments. This article equips energy professionals with a practical roadmap, integrating a decarbonisation strategy and an energy management process. It addresses Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, prioritising energy efficiency before clean energy substitution, and highlights focus areas that are often overlooked, like knowing all the emission types and their impact on getting to Net Zero Carbon. Effective decarbonisation starts with understanding energy’s role, data, discipline, and systems thinking, and it’s as much about operational resilience and competitiveness as it is about climate.
