Industry Leaders Drive Critical Conversations at the 2nd Annual Water Efficiency Technical Conference
The 2nd Annual Water Efficiency Technical Conference successfully brought together industry leaders, policymakers, researchers, engineers, sustainability professionals, and water sector stakeholders for a day of impactful engagement focused on the future of water sustainability in South Africa.
Hosted at the Premier Hotel OR Tambo on 14 May 2026, the conference was held under the theme: “Advancing Smart Water Efficiency: Technologies, Skills and Strategies for a Resilient Future.”
The conference created an important platform for knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and solution-driven dialogue around some of the most urgent water challenges facing South Africa and the broader African continent.
The opening sessions focused on Water Security, Resilience & Infrastructure Optimisation – From Risk to Reliability, with discussions exploring resilient water treatment systems, rural water supply sustainability, water infrastructure optimisation, and practical strategies for strengthening long-term water security.
The afternoon sessions shifted toward Transforming Water Use – Reuse, Innovation & Resource Efficiency – From Efficiency to Transformation, highlighting innovative approaches to water reuse, low-water sanitation systems, mining water sustainability, alternative water resources, and skills development initiatives aimed at building a future-ready water sector.
Throughout the conference, speakers and delegates emphasised the urgent need for innovation, collaboration, infrastructure resilience, and sustainable resource management to address increasing environmental pressures and growing water demand.
The event also reinforced the importance of partnerships between industry, government, research institutions, and training bodies in driving long-term impact and advancing smarter water management solutions.
